Club History

Broadland RFC was formed in 1983 by founder member Charles Stenner.  A home ground was found at Cobholm playing field where the club is still based.

The club started with one senior side, currently playing in Eastern Counties Division 3 North, and a full list of fixtures was quickly found.  During the next season a second XV were formed, known as the "Tigers", and later on a third team, the "Regulators".  The youth section was also created with much local interest from schools and later on a trophy was presented for an annual schools tournament in which all local schools are invited to participate.

From the start the club did not have a club house and had to use various local public houses to provide hospitality for visiting teams.  But, negotiations were taking place to rent and convert the pavilion at Cobholm to provide these facilities.  Eventually a lease was granted from the local council in 1994 and the club members commenced work to convert the room to provide a bar, kitchen and function room, another room was converted into a fully fitted gym.

The facility was opened by England/British Lion player Martin Johnson in October 1995.

Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength with youth/mini training being held on Sunday mornings and regular full fixture lists for the senior sides.  Membership currently stands at over 200 which includes Vice presidents, players and social members.

The club continues to look forwards with plans afoot for a Lottery Bid to improve the facilities and provide an all weather training pitch.
