  Broadland I's v Witham - 21st October 2000

On a cold Saturday afternoon Broadland I's played Witham RFC in a spirited encounter with both teams playing some decent rugby which was only dampened by the drizzly weather and the resultant handling errors which prevented continuity and an enjoyable game.

The first-half had Witham playing with the wind and, after being three points down to a Broadland penalty mid-way through the first period, Witham replied with three penalty kicks to lead 9 - 3 before a well-worked try for Andy Smith following on from a penalty took the home side to within a point just before the interval.

With the wind behind them in second half Broadland should have pinned the visitors in their own 22 but, with all credit to Witham, good attacking play continuously forced Broadland into their own half and only some deep kicking from Jason Pollard forcing them back.

In the end, Broadland used the wind to their advantage and with ever-increasing pressure managed to force two errors in quick succession with which they increased their lead to five points through two well placed penalty kicks from Macintosh.

In the five minutes of injury time, the visitors managed to fight their way back to Broadland's 22 and despite some good attacking play were held at bay by a defiant defence.

The final result being 14 - 9 in Broadland's favour (a try and three penalty kicks to three penalty kicks) was a fair result at the end of 80 or so minutes of rugby played by two enthusiastic teams.
