  West Norfolk III 33 v 7 Broadland TIgers - 16th November 2002

Broadland II were only just able to field a full (if ageing) fifteen as injuries and the international games took their toll.

Fielding a scratch side, Broadland started well playing with unexpected cohesion. However, the West Norfolk side dominated in the scrum, ruck and maul giving Broadland only scraps to play off. Broadland tackled well and managed to keep the West Norfolk side out for much of the half, but missed tackles in the midfield allowed the home side to take a 12-point lead with two tries and one conversion.

Despite this, Broadland were able to put a few phases of play together culminating in some searing runs from 17 year old Jonathan Clay, resulting in his second try in only his second senior game (converted by M Pywell).

At the break the score was 12-7 with Broadland in the ascendance and looking to dominate in the second half. However West Norfolk took full advantage of their second team fixture being cancelled and brought on four fresh players: this, coupled with waning fitness of the visitors, allowed them to regain control.

Despite some brave tackling by Joseph and Morris, both returning from retirement, West then scored a further three unanswered tries. Notable performances also from Blizzard, playing out of position at centre, and veteran hooker S.P.Lodge visiting from the north and switching codes for the weekend.

Team: T Bristow, S.P. Lodge, S Leggit, D Fowler, M Miller, G Joseph, A Todd, T Panter, D Morris, R Clarke, J Clay, N Blizzard, G Thompson, D Beagrie, M Pywell.
