Broadland notched up another league win, with a solid all round performance and clinical use of set plays. Broadland made a handful of changes, notably in the centres with Mark La-Cock and Kyle Rogers teaming up in the centre. It was also a return to Scrum Half for Broadland's Veteran Russell Clarke. In the Forwards Richard Bristo made the starting line up at tight head prop. Lakenham kicked off and Broadland cleared, Lakenham then set upon a sustained attack which saw Broadland defend for the first 15 minutes and had it not been for some excellent defence, notably from Captain Andy Riches and Ross Taylor in the tight, Lakenham could well have come away with some points. Broadland to their credit soaked up the pressure and moved out of their Danger area. Around the half hour point Lakenham added the first points of the game as their Fly Half took the direct route through the Broadland defensive line to score under the posts.(unconverted) Broadland Wing Lee Raven had a fantastic break called back, following a scuffle just inside the Broadland half. However it was not long before Broadland were on the Score Board. Number 8 Ian Mackintosh collected the ball off a back row move, passed the ball out to Flanker Asa Morrison, who stepped inside, drew his man, and popped the ball back to Jay Prescott. Prescott who was five yards out, under the posts, feigned a run at the line, committed the tackle and spun the ball out to Centre Mark La-Cock, who, running at full tilt, crashed through two tackles to score just to the right of the posts (converted Murray) The half time whistle went giving Broadland a two point lead. Broadland extended the lead shortly after the half with a penalty through the boot of Full Back Stuart Murray. Broadland pressure continued, both Kyle Rogers and Matt Scott had probing runs. Half Back Russell Clarke and Simon Ruddick turned up the pressure using Broadland forwards to take the ball in tight. Broadland's pressure continued and a lineout at the Lakenham 22 meter line yielded another score. Hooker Andy Smith Connected well with Tim Fenn, Number 8 Ian Mackintosh collected the pass, beat two defenders to score in the corner (converted Murray). To Lakenham's credit they never conceded and Broadland were forced into a defensive mode for the last ten minutes, however Lakenham were unable to cross the Yarmouth side's line and Broadland moved into fourth place in the league. On Saturday Broadland 1st XV are involved in an East Coast Derby as they Travel away to play local rivals Lowestoft and Yarmouth in the Semi Final of the Norfolk Plate, It is the first time the two sides have met in a competitive fixture, having only played in the occasional friendly, the match is sure to be a spectacle for all local rugby enthusiasts.
