Broadland put in a solid all round team performance, as the Broadland Forwards provided a steady supply of decent ball, in which the Broadland back division clinically converted into a quartet of quality tries. The win puts Broadland into 4th Place in the league, pushing for a top three spot. Broadland only had three changes, in the backs Simon Ruddick started at Fly Half and Mark La-Cock Returned at Outside Centre, In the Forwards Second Row Tim Fenn returned to the staring line up. Norwich Union kicked off and early open play saw the ball, move around the park, with both sides having some good breaks, Wing Matt Scott had a good run down the sideline, and Jay Prescott and Rye Bilyard both made inroads into the visitors' defensive line. Broadland took an early lead, Fly Half Ruddick set up a move that saw Mark La-Cock crash through the Union line, a perfectly timed pass gave Mark White the opportunity to take the ball at pace, side step and sprint over for a score (Converted Murray). Broadland were soon on the score sheet again this time with a clinical finish from Broadland Wing Kyle Rogers (Unconverted). Norwich Union were soon onto the score board as one of their forwards broke through in the tight to score a converted try. Broadland were dominating the game and progressing the ball well down field, Hooker Andy Smith was connecting well with both line out jumpers Tim Fenn and Asa Morrison, The Broadland Half backs Russ Clarke and Si Ruddick were setting the tempo for the game, involving both forwards and backs in set moves. However disaster hit the Broadland side as both Broadland props Matt Beckett and Richard Bristo were yellow carded following an altercation at a maul. Broadland faced the prospect of playing the last ten minutes of the first half with only thirteen players. Broadland packed down at the next scrum with only six players, with Captain Andy Riches and Rye Bilyard stepping up to the front row. Union pushed hard but the remainder of the Broadland pack dug in, with ball won Scrum Half Clarke spun the ball wide, La-Cock carried on and sent Scott down the wing into contact, Prescott and Morrison rucked over, and Clarke sent the Ball back into the middle. Broadland were awarded a penalty at the 22 meter line in which Full Back Stuart Murray stepped up and kicked. Broadland had not only managed to hold Union, but had actually put some points on the Board. Union consistently attacked the Broadland pack and tenacious tackling from the Broadland forwards, failed to halt the fifteen man surge. Union managed to progress into the Broadland five and a break saw a Union forward dive over, only to be held up over the line by Morrison and Murray. The referee signalled the return for the Broadland props and Union realised they had let an excellent opportunity to make a mark on the game go astray. Union started the half with an early penalty taking the score to 15 - 10 in Broadland's favour, However Broadland soon extended their lead, some excellent grafting at the Half way line from Prescott and Beckett created a break, Full Back Murray broke clear, Wing Rogers drew his man, Murray faked the pass turned inside and sprinted the remaining 20 yards to score (Unconverted). Union were far from beaten and a Break at the 10 meter saw a converted try put the visitor to within 3 points of the Yarmouth side, Broadland made two Changes with Graham Thompson coming on at Prop and Ben Hodds joining the second row. Broadland were again pushing the Union line Captain Riches had a storming run in the midfield, and Broadland's efforts were rewarded with a penalty at the five. Veteran Scrum half Clarke showed his experience as he took a quick tap shimmied and spun over to Score (Unconverted). Union were still threatening a score and again were held up over the line, this time by White and Bilyard. Broadland made their final substitution with Lee Raven providing some fresh legs on the wing. Broadland defended well in the last ten minutes and with no further score Broadland recorded a comfortable home league win Broadland 2nd XV also recorded a merit table win, with a 41 - 10 away victory over Holt 3rd XV.
