Broadland Rugby Club Celebrated their first season in
Eastern Counties Two with a Gentleman’s Dinner at the Kensington
Hotel, Great Yarmouth. The guest speaker was former England International
and three times Grand Slam winning Hooker Brian Moore.
Broadland, who have now attained their highest ever finish in the English
Club Championship - finishing in fourth place in Eastern Counties Two
- certainly consolidated their arrival at a new level following promotion
last season and answered their critics on being able to compete at a higher
standard.
Club Honorary Life Member Andy Ruddick and Brian Moore were on hand to
present a number of awards to members of the club. It was a great day
for the clubs Forwards as four of the five playing awards went to Back-row
players.

Asa Morrison received the Broadland 1st
XV Players Player of the Year. Versatile Morrison led thefForwards
in scoring and has been a main-stay of the Broadland pack since moving
to the area in early 1997.

Broadland 2nd XV Players Player of the Year was Kyle
Rogers. Teenager Rogers had an outstanding season in the Seconds
and began to break into the First XV towards the end of the season.

First Team Captain Andy Riches presented the Captains Player of the
year to Open Side Flanker Jay Prescott.

Second Team Captain Russell Clarke presented his Captains Player
of the year to Forward Neil Brewster.

Wing Sammy Jordan, who only recently
had his first appearance at first team level was awarded Most Promising
Player.

Jim
Grey
was awarded the Clubman of the year for revolutionising the role of
equipment officer (as well as playing in the 1st XV second row).
On
a special note Ian McCreadie was awarded Honorary life membership to the
club, an honour only bestowed upon a precious few. Sue Watson, long-standing
Secretary and Treasurer was presented with a spectacular bouquet in thanks
of her tireless support of the club.
England International Moore ensured an entertaining evening as he recalled
his own experiences as a player with England and the British and Irish
Lions, as well as reflecting upon the achievement of England winning the
World Cup.
