L&Y U15 31 v 5 Broadland U15 - 27th October 2000 Broadland sportingly stepped into the breach after Lowestoft and Yarmouth's planned opponents called off at short notice. There followed some determined rugby by both sides until the deadlock was broken by John Mills,- again, ouching down behind the posts after a strong run. Russell Chapman converted. Broadland threatened to score with some good passing moves but were thwarted by Low & Yar's fearless tackling. Ben Smith then ran Low & Yar's third try to bring the score to 17-0 at half-time. Broadland reclaimed five points with a try early in the second half. However, Andrew Maxwell soon retaliated which he pounced upon a loose ball on the 22-metre and ran swiftly to touch down. Again Chapman converted. Some frenetic passing inside the 22 led to a strong drive, enabling Adam Todd to touch down for Low & Yar's final try which Russell Chapman converted This was a game of determined , well contested rugby by both teams which was played in good spirit despite the appalling conditions. Broadland created some strong chances which continually left L&Y bewildered. Only some determined tackling by one or two of the more experienced players prevented Broadland running in more tries. Broadland's superior passing and faster reaction off the ball led to two further, unconverted, tries in the first half, making it 15-0 at the break. L&Y made a better start to the second half but were still unable to score until some frenetic play close to the try line resulted in Alex Musgrove grounding the ball. Russell Chapman was unable to convert from a difficult angle. Man of the match: Jamie Baxter. - Back - Broadlands U15 7 v 29 Diss U15 - 15th December 2000 DESPITE some hard tackling Diss scored a well worked try through the backs to open their account. The second when the scrumhalf pounced on a spilled ball from Broadland's scrum near their own line. Broadland's only score resulted in a converted try after a huge effort by the forwards who drove over the line to go in under the posts. The second half saw Diss using their backs well scoring twice more. One with a chip ahead for opposing wingers to chase but with the bounce favouring Diss and using their powerful centre to good advantage scored the final try. Broadland although beaten by a better side played with determination with gutsy performances by Marlon and Troy and man of the match Jack Lovett. - Back - Broadland U13 24 v 52 Lowestoft & Yarmouth U13 - 12th January 2001 LOWESTOFT and Yarmouth took the honors in this good-natured match.
